The commission of the Centenary of the Armenian genocide of Lebanon distributed to all the embassies in activity in Lebanon, the book “Deir Zor” of the photographer Bardig Kouyoumdjian living in France and of the journalist Christine Siméone. This book published in France is a collection of photographs that contain authentic information about the real places of the genocide, the descendants of the survivors and the authentic traces of the genocide.

“Bardig Kouyoumdjian returned to the Syrian desert (2001-2003), where hundreds of thousands of Ottoman Armenians found their final destination. During their deportation a few of the young men and women were lucky and survived the ordeal, defeating both starvation and disease; some others even managed to escape the cruel massacres. However, the great majority perished. This desert was literally the end of the road; the threshold to the world of the dead. Bardig made an unparalleled journey to these forgotten places, the centers of deportation in Aleppo, Meskene, Rakka, and Deir-Zor. He also managed to find the main sites of the massacres at Shaddade, Markade, Ras-ul-Ain or Suwar. These lands carry, ninety years later on, the remains of the dead and the offspring of those who survived.”

Bardig Kouyoumdjian is a photographer based in Paris. Grandchild of a survivor of the Armenian genocide of 1915, he is part of that generation

who now wants to know, understand, and above all find traces.

À l’initiative de la commission du centenaire du génocide, le livre  « Deir Zor » a été distribué à toutes les ambassades.

La commission du Centenaire de Génocide Arménien du Liban a distribué à toutes les ambassades en activité au Liban, le livre « Deir Zor » du photographe Bardig Kouyoumdjian résidant en France et de la journaliste Christine Siméone. Cet ouvrage paru en France est un recueil de photographies renfermant des renseignements authentiques sur les véritables lieux du génocide, sur les descendants des rescapés et sur les traces authentiques du génocide.
